Like in many parts of the world, the woman bears responsibility of ensuring the equilibrium of the social, cultural and economic wellbeing of a family in Africa. It is often the duty of a woman in Tooro to form the moral conduct of a family, manage the production of food, and make available all the daily necessities of life in a homestead. The woman also has the task of changing the cultural past and working towards equalising opportunities for all children through education and empowerment. Her Royal Highness Best Kemigisa Olimi has led by example and taken on the role of, not only being the Queen Mother to the current King and the Princess Royal, but also of educating and empowering children, girls, and women in Tooro and Africa. This is accomplished through her foundation (Queen Mother Best Foundation) where she nurtures women to become role models, helps children access useful education and empowers girls to discover their potential so that they live their best life.
Her Royal Highness Best Kemigisa Olimi is mother to His Majesty Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, the reigning King of Tooro and Her Royal Highness Ruth Nsemere Komuntale, the Princess Royal of Tooro. As a mother, Her Royal Highness Best is very passionate about issues that affect women and children in Tooro Kingdom and beyond. She uses her initiatives such as “Hakyooto” as a vehicle to educate, entertain and empower women in Africa.
Her Royal Highness Best Kemigisa Olimi is an ardent advocate of women empowerment and girl education in Africa. She has set up training institutions in her Kingdom such as Queen Mother Best Nursery and Primary School and Queen Mother Best Vocational School that focus on practical learning, life skills and technical skills to enable the young people especially girls start and run businesses to earn a living, take care of their families, create jobs and positively contribute to the development of their Kingdom and Country. Her Royal Highness Best Kemigisa Olimi through the Queen Mother Best Foundation also implements economic empowerment initiatives where she provides capital to girls and women to run their businesses and produce items to be sold to earn income to take care of their families, educate their children and get out of poverty. Her Royal Highness Best looks for and secures market for items produced by the girls and women that can’t be consumed locally.
Her Royal Highness Best Kemigisa Olimi has founded organisations including:
1. Queen Mother Best Foundation
2. Tooro Kingdom Women Association (TKWA)
3. African Queens and Women Cultural Leaders Network (AQWCLN)
4. Council of Traditional and Cultural Leaders of Africa (COTLA)
5.Patron Of ZONTA International.
Through these organisations and with the great support of partners like UN Women, Her Royal Highness Best Kemigisa Olimi mobilises cultural and traditional leaders in Africa so that they end all forms of violence against women and girls and eliminate harmful cultural practices like child marriages and female genital mutilation.
